    How It Works

Step 1: Measure your wallsMeasure the room length and width, or just the accent wall width, plus the ceiling height in feet.
Step 2: Pick your rollChoose a standard double roll, a peel and stick roll, or a wide roll, and set the pattern repeat printed on the label.
Step 3: Buy with the countOrder the roll count shown, plus one spare roll from the same batch for cuts, corners and future repairs.

    Formula Used in This Calculator

This calculator counts wallpaper the way pros count it, strip by strip: Wall run (in) = Room perimeter, or the accent wall width on its own Strips needed = Wall run / Roll width, rounded up Strip length = Ceiling height + 4 in trim, rounded up to the next full pattern repeat Strips per roll = Roll length / Strip length, rounded down Rolls to buy = Strips needed / Strips per roll, rounded up Counting strips is more accurate than counting square feet, because a roll can hold paper that never reaches the wall once strip lengths and pattern repeats are cut.

3 Wallpaper Rules That Save Money

    • Buy every roll from one batch: dye lots shift the color a little, and a roll from a later batch can show on the wall as a soft stripe.
    • Peel and stick suits renters: it goes up with no paste and peels off clean at move out, so the deposit stays safe.
    • Order the spare roll now: patterns get discontinued fast, and one spare roll covers a torn strip or a future patch with a perfect match.

    Wallpaper Calculator FAQs

How many rolls of wallpaper do I need for a 12 x 10 room? With 8 ft ceilings and standard double rolls, a 12 x 10 ft room needs 26 strips and 9 double rolls. A pattern repeat pushes the count up, and one spare roll brings the safe order to 10.

How much does one double roll of wallpaper cover?A double roll holds about 56 sq ft of paper, but the usable cover is lower. Cut into strips for an 8 ft wall, one double roll gives 3 strips, so this calculator counts strips instead of raw square feet.

Does the pattern repeat change how many rolls I need?Yes. Every strip is cut to the next full repeat so the pattern lines up across the wall. A large 24 in repeat can add one or two rolls to a room, and the calculator adds that in for you.

Is peel and stick wallpaper good for apartments? It is the renter favorite: no paste, no mess, and it peels off clean when you move. The rolls are shorter at 18 ft, so an accent wall in a 12 ft wide room takes about 4 peel and stick rolls.

Every other calculator gave me square feet and left me guessing. This one counts strips, and 9 rolls was exactly right for our bedroom.

The pattern repeat line saved me. My large print needed 2 rolls more than the plain count, and I found out before ordering, not during hanging.

Peel and stick accent wall in our rental, 4 rolls just like it said. Landlord happy, deposit safe, wall looks like a magazine.

Bought the spare roll from the same batch like the safe pick said. Six months later a patch repair matched perfectly.

Wide rolls for our long living room wall cut the seams in half. The chart on this page matched my order to the roll.

First time hanging paper and the strip length with trim allowance meant zero short strips. Small detail, huge relief.
